Kelmscott Manor and Buscot Park

Father of the Arts and Crafts Movement, William Morris, considered Kelmscott to be his “Heaven on Earth”. During our visit you will see the wonderful Manor House and the adjoining farm buildings that he loved as examples of true craftsmanship, unspoilt and unaltered and in harmony with the surrounding countryside. We will also see artwork and objects owned and designed by Morris and have the opportunity to explore the delightful gardens.

Buscot Park was built in the 1780s in the neoclassical style. It has been the home of the Lords Farringdon since 1889, though the house and estate were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1956. The house contains the Farringdon Collection of fine art, furniture, ceramics and objets d’art. it includes paintings by Rembrandt, Botticelli, Reynolds, Rubens and Murillo and Edward Burne-Jones’s famous series The Legend of the Briar Rose. The house is surrounded by extensive pleasure gardens including a magnificent water garden that connects to the house with a picturesque lake 400 metres away.
